Why Maximum Capacity Is Not Enough for a Double Girder Overhead Crane

When selecting a double girder overhead crane, providing only the maximum lifting capacity is not enough to determine the correct configuration. The actual operating conditions and lifting frequency also have a direct impact on crane design.

Two cranes with the same rated capacity may require very different configurations depending on daily operating hours, number of lifting cycles, peak operating frequency, load characteristics, and working environment. These factors influence the duty classification, structural design, motors, hoisting mechanism, brakes, and other key components.

If operating frequency is underestimated during the purchasing stage, the selected crane may not provide an appropriate safety and performance margin for the actual workload. Providing complete project parameters allows engineers to match the equipment more accurately to real operating requirements.
