Duty Cycle Matters When Selecting a Double Girder Overhead Crane

Lifting capacity alone is not enough to determine the correct double girder overhead crane configuration. The actual duty cycle and operating frequency are equally important factors that should be confirmed during the project inquiry stage.

Daily working hours, number of shifts, lifting cycles per hour, continuous operating time, and load conditions can directly affect the crane duty classification and component selection. A crane used occasionally and a crane operating continuously may require very different motors, brakes, hoisting mechanisms, electrical systems, and structural configurations even if their rated capacities are the same.

Providing complete operating information allows engineers to evaluate the real workload and recommend a configuration that better matches the application. This can also reduce the risk of selecting equipment that is unsuitable for the actual production schedule.
